I’ve been working with James Nickson for around five years and have always found him extremely knowledgeable about fitness, training adaptations plus diet and lifestyle. His approach is deceptively simple: get the basics right then evolve the training to suit individual needs / goals. However at the heart of this is his ability to build relationships, to understand people’s motivations and to help them define / meet their fitness goals by using empathy to build trust and confidence.
Technically, James is able to adapt his approach to a range of training needs / disciplines from full-body fitness to strength and mass-gaining to training movements particular to individual sports. For example, James has previously helped me to strengthen my body for running and to improve mobility for running. Now we are working more around full-body strengthening with some mass-gain.
Always the work is grounded in the fundamentals – to strengthen the core, improve mobility and accuracy of movements. If James teaches you to swing a kettlebell, the movement is correct, never approximate, ditto with lifts / presses etc. Accuracy of movement is king. So if you want to grow and develop in a calm, safe, empathetic environment with accuracy and good technique then James is the Man.

I went to James at turnuptraining to improve my core strength and overall strength and fitness, James quickly formulated a plan which was tweaked as we progressed! James is so inspirational, motivational and really easy to communicate with whilst pushing you to your limits in a relaxed atmosphere at a bespoke private gym. 5 star training! James has the perfect mix of professionalism, knowledge and fun. I’ve never been to a personal trainer before whos make me feel as comfortable. No matter what weight I have been he’s supported me, he has worked around injuries and made the sessions match my goals while always pushing me to achieve more each time.
I genuinely wouldn’t go anywhere else and I’m grateful for the positive change he has had on my life towards food and exercise during my weight loss journey.
